If you would like to use the GNOME NetworkManager applet in KDE, a simple instruction by cb400f still applies.

The nm-applet from GNOME is known to perform way better than the KDE plasmoid, especially for mobile broadband.
The instruction provided by cb400f was for openSUSE 11.4, but it still works. Here's a screenshot of a working nm-applet in my KDE 4.10.1:

I also installed a package named mobile-broadband-provider-info to ease up the setting up of mobile broadband. It is available in the main OSS repository and in KDE upstream.
